Xingxing Wang
Dr. Xingxing Wang is a distinguished lyric coloratura soprano and an Associate Professor at the Suzhou University of Technology. As a contracted artist of the Petrof Art Family, she represents a rare blend of international performance excellence and rigorous academic leadership. Born in Chongqing, China, Dr. Wang’s artistic journey spans thirteen years of residency and professional practice across New Zealand, Germany, and the Czech Republic, where she previously served for both Oper Leipzig and New Zealand Opera.
Her ascent in the international music scene was marked by historic milestones; she was the first Chinese woman selected for the prestigious PWC Malvina Major Emerging Artist program and the sole recipient of the Circle 100 Scholarship from the Opera Guild Foundation in her cohort. Her competitive record is equally formidable, boasting first-prize honors at the Sealord International Vocal Competition in New Zealand and the Suzhou Singer Grand Prix in China, as well as a third-prize finish at the International Vocal Competition in the Czech Republic. In recognition of her continued excellence, she was selected for the inaugural Suzhou Outstanding Musicians Solo Recital in 2025.
Dr. Wang’s artistry is defined by a rare combination of technical precision and remarkable stylistic versatility. Possessing an expansive vocal range and a rich palette of tonal colors, she is a celebrated interpreter of art songs in German, Italian, French, English, and Czech. Her prowess in "New Music" has made her a preferred collaborator for avant-garde composers like Weijie Gao, Gareth Farr, Nalin Shen etc, leading to numerous world premieres of contemporary classical works.
Beyond the opera house, she is a prolific recitalist, having performed extensive solo concert tours across Germany, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, and China. Her ability to connect with modern audiences is further evidenced by her significant digital footprint; she has released a professional series of music videos in China that have surpassed 1 million views, blending traditional excellence with contemporary media.
Her stage credits are equally diverse, ranging from the lead role of Wei Wei in The Bone Feeder at the 2017 Auckland Arts Festival to the protagonist in the New Zealand production of Miss Saigon. Her repertoire also includes the role of Ying’er in the modern Chinese opera Fatal Desire and appearances in masterpieces such as Die Zauberflöte at Oper Leipzig. A visionary leader in the arts, Dr. Wang is also the founder and driving force behind the Changshu International Arts Festival from 2021- 2023, an initiative that fosters global cultural exchange and provides a prestigious platform for international talent.
Since returning to China in 2016, Dr. Wang has dedicated herself to performance, research, and pedagogy, actively fostering cultural and educational exchange between China and Europe. After being recruited as a high-level talent by the Suzhou University of Technology in 2019, she has continued to bridge global musical traditions. In 2021, she released her debut album, Magical Songs, featuring a collection of Chinese and foreign classical works. Her academic influence reached a new peak in 2025 when she served as the only expert from Mainland China to present a lecture-recital at the 11th International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT).
Dr. Wang’s educational background is as multifaceted as her career, holding a Meisterklassenexamen (Doctor of Musical Arts equivalent) with distinction from the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig, a Master’s degree from the New Zealand School of Music, and double Bachelor’s degrees in Vocal Performance and Commerce from Victoria University of Wellington. Her extraordinary life and career have been documented by Television New Zealand (TVNZ) in a dedicated documentary, celebrating her as a visionary artist who harmonizes a global perspective with profound cultural roots.
